TheSkillz

Terms of Use

Last updated 2 September 2026.

These terms cover your use of TheSkillz — the website at https://theskillz.dev, the skills sold and given away on it, and the accounts, listings and reviews that go with them. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, do not use the site.

1. What TheSkillz actually is

TheSkillz is a store for AI agent skills. A skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file and any bundled references, scripts or templates. Some skills are written by us and published under the platform account. Most are written by independent creators who license their work for sale here.

We are not a neutral pipe and we do not claim to be one. Three parties are involved in a paid skill:

  • The creator writes the skill and licenses it for distribution here. They own the content, decide the price, and are responsible for what it contains.
  • TheSkillz operates the store: we security-scan and review submissions, decide what is listed, host the catalog and downloads, take a 30% platform fee and pay creators the remaining 70%.
  • Polar is the merchant of record for paid checkouts. Polar is the seller named on your receipt, takes the payment, and handles VAT and sales tax. Where Stripe Connect is enabled for a creator instead, that creator is the seller of record for their sales and TheSkillz takes an application fee on top.

So buying a skill is a transaction with the merchant of record for a licence to a creator’s work, in a store we run and curate. We take responsibility for how the store runs — the review process, the accuracy of what we ourselves say on listing pages, and the money split. We do not take responsibility for what a third-party skill does when you run it, or for a creator’s conduct. Sections 6 and 7 spell that out.

2. Your account

Sign-in runs through Firebase Authentication (email and password, Google, or GitHub). You need an account to buy, publish, star or review. Use an email address you control, keep your credentials to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has access.

  • One account per person. Do not share logins or resell access to your library.
  • Your username and profile are public. Do not impersonate another person, company or project, and do not claim a handle you are not entitled to.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may reclaim a username used to impersonate.

What we store about you, and how to have it deleted, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

3. Buying a skill

Prices are in US dollars and shown on each listing. Tax is added at checkout where it applies. Payment details are handled by the payment provider — card numbers never reach our servers.

A paid skill is digital content and is delivered immediately: as soon as the payment clears, the skill appears in your account and you can download it. You get a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the skill and its bundled files with your own AI agents — personally or inside the organisation that paid — including in commercial work. You also get whatever updates the creator publishes to that skill for as long as it stays listed.

Unless the listing says otherwise, you may not redistribute, resell, republish or sublicense a paid skill’s contents. Where a skill states its own licence — free skills are frequently MIT — that licence governs the content and this section covers only the sale.

4. Refunds

Skills are digital content delivered in full at the moment of purchase, so purchases are non-refundable by default. There is no general change-of-mind window and no trial period. That is the position we take on every sale, and it is stated at checkout as well as here.

Two qualifications, because a flat "no refunds, ever" would not be true:

  • Statutory rights are not waived by this page. Consumers in the EU, the UK and other places with comparable law have a legal right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days. For digital content that right can be lost — but only where you expressly consented to immediate delivery and acknowledged losing it at the point of sale, which is what the checkout consent is for. Nothing in these terms removes a right the law gives you and does not let you give up.
  • The transaction sits with the merchant of record. Polar takes the payment, so refunds, chargebacks and tax adjustments are processed under Polar’s terms and on Polar’s timetable. Contact us with your order id and we will take it up with them; where a claim is valid we will not stand in the way of the refund.

Separately from any legal right, we will refund at our own discretion in one situation: the listing was materially wrong about what the skill does, or the download was broken and we could not fix it. Refunds are not available on request. If you want one, you have to show us why — the burden of proof is on you, and the process below is how you meet it.

Making a refund claim

Raise a claim within 14 days of the purchase date, by email, and include all of the following. A claim missing any of these is not a claim we can assess, and we will ask you for the missing part before the window is judged.

  1. The order id, plus the skill name and the version you bought (shown on the listing and in your account).
  2. The content hash. Every published skill is pinned to a SHA-256 hash of its reviewed SKILL.md, shown on the listing page. Quote it. Because the hash pins what was reviewed to what you downloaded, "the file changed after review" is not a dispute either of us has to have — but it also means the claim has to be about the artifact you actually received.
  3. What the listing claimed. Quote the specific line from the skill’s page or from its SKILL.md that you say is untrue. Not a general impression of the skill — the sentence.
  4. What actually happened. The behaviour you observed, and the steps to reproduce it, in enough detail that we can run them ourselves.
  5. Which agent and version you ran it with — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI or OpenClaw. A skill behaving differently across tools or model versions is not by itself a defect, so we cannot assess a claim without knowing what ran it.
  6. Evidence. A transcript excerpt, terminal output, or screenshots showing the observed behaviour. Assertion on its own is not evidence.

What does not qualify. Changing your mind. Buying by mistake. No longer needing it. The skill works but you wanted different output, a different style, or more scope. Your agent or model behaved differently than you expected. You did not read the listing, the compatibility list, or the price. Dissatisfaction with a creator’s support. None of these get a discretionary refund.

Who decides. TheSkillz reviews the claim, and we may ask the creator to respond before we decide — they wrote the skill and often know immediately whether the behaviour is a defect. We aim to answer within 14 days of receiving a complete claim. Our decision is on the discretionary refund only; it has no bearing on statutory rights, which are not ours to grant or refuse. Where we approve a refund, Polar processes it as merchant of record, on Polar’s timetable, back to the original payment method.

When a purchase is refunded, access to the skill and its downloads is revoked.

5. Publishing a skill

If you submit a skill, these apply to you as well.

  • It has to be yours. You must own the skill or otherwise have the right to license it, including any code, prompts, text or assets bundled with it.
  • Licence to us. You grant TheSkillz a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, market, sell and distribute your skill to buyers, and to show excerpts of it on the site and in listings. You keep ownership. The licence ends when the skill is delisted, except that buyers keep what they already bought.
  • Price and split. You set the price — free, or $1 to $100. We keep 30% and you receive 70% of each sale, paid out monthly against the ledger in your settings. Payouts need valid payout details from you; unclaimed balances stay in the ledger.
  • Review is ours to run. Every submission is scanned automatically and then read by a person before it goes live. We may reject a submission, correct listing metadata, unpublish or delist a skill at any time, including after it has been published, and we do not have to give a reason.
  • Integrity of what we publish. The published SKILL.md is pinned to a SHA-256 hash shown on its page. Updates go through review again.
  • You are responsible for your skill. For what it does, for the accuracy of its listing, and for supporting the people who buy it.
  • Content rules. No malware, credential harvesting or exfiltration, no hidden or obfuscated instructions, no prompt injection, no scraping of private data, no content that infringes someone else’s rights, nothing illegal.

6. What review means, and what it does not

Every submission runs through a static scanner that looks for hidden Unicode, prompt-injection and concealment phrases, credential access, remote-code-execution patterns, over-broad tool permissions, encoded payloads and unknown network destinations. It produces a score and a verdict; anything with a critical finding is blocked from publishing unless an admin overrides it. A person then reads the skill before it goes live. The detail is on the About page.

That is a filter, not a guarantee. The scanner matches patterns, and a reviewer reads markdown — neither can predict how your agent will behave in your environment. A skill is a set of instructions handed to a program that can run commands on your machine with whatever permissions you have granted it. Read a skill before you run it, and give your agent the narrowest permissions the task needs. A "verified" badge means the skill passed our checks, not that it is safe for your setup or correct for your purpose.

7. Disclaimers and liability

Skills are provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, and without limiting the responsibilities we do accept in section 1:

  • We make no warranty that any skill is fit for a particular purpose, error-free, secure, or compatible with your tools.
  • We are not responsible for what happens when you run a skill: code it writes, commands it executes, files it changes, data it sends, or costs it runs up with your model provider.
  • We are not responsible for the conduct of creators or buyers, or for disputes between them, beyond running the review, listing and payout processes described here.
  • We are not responsible for third-party services the site depends on — Cloudflare, Firebase and Google, Polar, Stripe, Resend — or for their outages.
  • We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or continuously available.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and for consumer rights that apply where you live. Where liability can be limited, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

8. Acceptable use

  • Do not attempt to break, bypass or probe authentication, download authorisation, or other people’s accounts.
  • Do not bulk-download or scrape the catalog beyond the published install and API endpoints, and do not re-host paid content.
  • Reviews should come from people who actually used the skill. No paid, traded or retaliatory reviews. We hide reviews that break this.
  • Do not upload unlawful content or use the site to distribute malware.

9. Copyright and takedowns

If you believe a listing infringes your rights, contact us with the listing URL, what you own, and enough detail for us to check the claim. We will remove or suspend the listing while we look into it, and we will tell the creator. Repeat infringers lose their accounts.

10. Changes, suspension and ending

We may change these terms. The date at the top changes with them, and material changes get a notice on the site. Continuing to use TheSkillz after a change means you accept the new version.

You can stop using the site whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account — see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data. Skills you have bought stay downloadable for as long as your account exists.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of [TODO: jurisdiction], and disputes are subject to its courts. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there.

[TODO: jurisdiction] is a placeholder, not an omission. No governing law has been settled for this project, and none is invented here. It must be filled in before launch.

12. Contact
